Tompkins wins battle for Pecom forest assets

American magnate Douglas Tompkins has won the battle for the forests assets of Argentine group Pérez Companc (Pecom) against competition from Chilean forest interests Celulosa Arauco y Constitucion and CMPC Companies. CMPC plans new pulp mill

The Chilean group CMPC has announced is has been studying plans for a new pulp plant in Region VIII of the country. The company has spent some months discussing the possible construction with local authorities in the region and has started studies leading to the building of a new pulp plant with a capacity of between 700,000 and 750,000 tons a year at a cost of about US$800 million.... Brazil pulp exports on the up

The Sumitomo Forestry Co of Japan will buy Dominance Industries Pty Ltd of Singapore, which includes the Dominance MDF production facility at Wangaratta in Australia. Goodfellow Announces First Quarter Results

Goodfellow, Canada's largest remanufacturer and processor of softwood and hardwood products, reported results for the first quarter ended November 30, 2002. Sales increased to $128 million from $109.6 million a year ago. Japans timber demand will total 23.76 million cubic meters in 2003, a decrease of 1.5%..
